Unfortunately, hardware sometimes just fails. We ran into that today.
The striped RAID 0 array that was in use for various on-server backups died today. This included a lot of Minecraft backups, along with some other ephemeral data, such as the Minecraft map.
However, this is just one of many backups of the Minecraft backups, so… we’ve got backups of our backups! Nothing of importance was lost 🎉, and that’s because:
“RAID is not a backup”– Somebody
On the flip side, I don’t have enough capacity available to re-render the map until a replacement harddrive arrives, so the Minecraft map will be offline for the next week until I get a replacement drive with more capacity.
This is a great exercise, as I’m reviewing other components that might need more backups.
