Unfortunately, hardware sometimes just fails. We ran into that today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The striped RAID 0 array<\/a> that was in use for various on-server backups died today. This included a lot of Minecraft backups, along with some other ephemeral data, such as the Minecraft map.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, this is just one of many backups of the Minecraft backups, so… we’ve got backups of our backups! Nothing of importance was lost \ud83c\udf89, and that’s because:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“RAID is not a backup”<\/p>– Somebody<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

On the flip side, I don’t have enough capacity available to re-render the map until a replacement harddrive arrives, so the Minecraft map will be offline for the next week until I get a replacement drive with more capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
